Athlete Bios - Darda Sales - 2008 Paralympian

Darda Geiger has a lot to be smiling about these days.

Not only does she get to compete at the 2006 IPC Swimming World Championships, she will also be sharing that experience with her new husband and longtime teammate Brad Sales. Geiger lost her right leg at the age of two when she was involved in a farming accident. As a youngster she started taking swimming lessons and it wasnt long before a coach noticed she had racing talents. "I'm very determined and competitive naturally," said Geiger. "That's played a large role in my development."

Darda is a two-time Paralympian having competed at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney and the 2004 Games in Athens. She was a member of the 4x100 medley relay team in Sydney that won the gold medal and broke the World Record. In Athens, she won a silver medal in the same event.

Among her numerous awards, one that stands out is the Yes I Can Award, an international prize she received in North Carolina for athletics. Darda completed her studies in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario in this year. Her career goal is to work with children as a recreational therapist.
