Awards

Coach awards are presented at the annual Swim Ontario conference, celebrating the achievements and successes of coaches in Ontario.

Coach(s) of the Year

Awarded to the individuals who have coached the top male, female, para male or para female athletes to a performance with the highest world ranking.

Criteria includes:

  • Must be current members of Swim Ontario and Canadian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (CSCTA)
  • Must be an athlete who trains full time in an Ontario program
  • Must be at least certified as a Fundamentals Coach


The Lea Bredschneider Award

The Lea Bredschneider Award is presented to a coach who is providing a significant contribution to swimming in Ontario going above and beyond with volunteering, and supporting swimming in the local community and beyond.

Criteria considered for nomination:

  • Must be current members of Swim Ontario and Canadian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (CSCA)
  • Must be coaching in a volunteer capacity for a minimum of 3 years
  • Must be at least certified as a Fundamentals Coach


The Coaching Service Award

The Ontario Coach Service Award is an annual award presented to a coach nominated by coaches in Ontario. The nominated coach is to be considered as "contributing positively to the coaching environment and improving performances of swimming in Ontario”.

Criteria considered for nomination:

  • Promotes the development of young coaches in their Club and Region through their involvement in Provincial and Regional Activities
  • Works with, or is involved with developing swimmers across a range abilities and levels in their Club, Region and/or Province
  • Actively involved in promoting the sport of swimming in their community, region, and throughout the Province of Ontario.

Clifford Barry Follow Your Heart Excellence Program

The Clifford Barry Follow Your Heart Excellence Project is established to remember Cliff’s extraordinary legacy of coaching reaching the highest level of sporting achievement. His contribution to Canadian swimming and his values based approach for leadership and mentorship was exceptional. Encouraging Canadian coaches to pursue excellence in coaching as a long term profession, the Clifford Barry Project will recognize the coach who demonstrates the love and passion for the sport and profession with an emphasis on Club development from grassroots to national and international competition. Application period is between June 1 and July 30.
