Next Gen Performance Coach Mentorship Program

PROGRAM

One of the strategic aims of Swim Ontario is to enhance the development of Performance Coaches in Ontario. The Swim Ontario Next Gen Performance Coaching Mentorship Program will be a professional development opportunity for mentoring Performance Coaches in Ontario towards a consistent and reliable contribution to the Junior and Senior National teams.

DESCRIPTION

Based on an application and review process, Swim Ontario will identify a select group of up to 16 coaches for the 2025-2026 season. This group of coaches will be mentored by Olympic and Paralympic level coaches through a series of virtual and in person activities and events beginning in September 2025.

The ideal candidates have taken steps to make coaching a career pathway, are currently leading a club program or have aspirations to lead a club program within the next 3 years, with a goal of contributing to the provincial and national programs.

Candidates must also have shown a willingness to participate in ongoing professional development including participation in coach education and mentorship opportunities such as NCCP courses, Regional/Provincial/National training and racing opportunities and applied mentorship opportunities.

TENTATIVE EDUCATIONAL PLAN

Stage 1 - September-December

  • September: Swim Ontario Conference (In-Person)
  • October: Sports Science Presentation - Virtual
  • October: 2025 World Aquatics World Cup - Toronto
  • November: Olympic or Paralympic Stream Coach Leader - Virtual Presentation
  • December: Ontario Junior International (In-Person)

Stage 2 - January-May TBC

  • January: Club Development Presentation - Virtual
  • February: Olympic or Paralympic Stream Coach Leader - Virtual Presentation
  • March: Ontario Swimming Championships - In-Person Presentation

SUPPORTED MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITY

  • Selected coaches will have the opportunity to submit a proposal for support of up to $1000.00 to participate in a mentorship opportunity. Approved opportunities will support visitation to

COACH ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be fully registered with Swimming Canada with a status of Active
  • Must be a minimum of NCCP Age Group Coach Trained (have taken Swimming 201)
  • Actively Coaching Provincial or National level swimmers
  • Must be born in 1988 or later
  • Must be available to attend all mentoring sessions as listed above
  • Letter of endorsement from their club president

COACH RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All travel, accommodation plans for in person events will be the responsibility of the selected coach. Swim Ontario will provide financial support for mileage to help offset some of the incurred costs.
  • Coaches are responsible for the registration and payment for the Swim Ontario Conference. .

AMENDMENTS AND UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES:

  • In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances, Swim Ontario Performance Staff under the direction of the CEO has the full discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit, taking into account factors and circumstances that it deems relevant.

CHANGES TO THE DOCUMENT:

  • The Swim Ontario performance staff reserves the right to make changes to this document at its discretion.
  • Any changes to this document shall be communicated directly to all eligible participants and published on the Swim Ontario website
