Ontario swimmers bring home hardware from the Santa Clara International

Nine Ontario swimmers took to the water and raced to the podium at the Santa Clara International from June 6-9 in Santa Clara, California, with 18 medal winning performances. 

“This was a great meet for early June with very solid competition, especially for the women in the 200m and under events with the Cal and Stanford women racing, which really spiced things up and having athletes from seven different countries made prelims a much more serious event. This was a great meet going into the final prep for the summer,” said Don Burton, head coach of the Ontario Swim Academy and coach on the tour team.

Tessa Cieplucha (OAK) was on the podium four times, winning gold in the 800 free (8:42.75) and 400 IM (4:45.44) as well as bronze in the 200 IM (2:17.40) and 200 Breast (2:35.91).  Three other swimmers had triple medal winning weekends with Madison Broad (CYPS/OSA) winning the 200 back, second in the 50 back and third in the 100 back, Eli Wall (TSC) winning the 200 breast, second in the 50 breast and third in the 100 breast, and Mabel Zavaros (OAK) in second in the 400 IM and third in the 200 fly and 200 back.

All of the swimmers on the team are going to be representing Canada at international competitions later this summer.
