In order to assist clubs in making decisions regarding attending the Spring Forward Weekend event, Swim ONtario is providing addiitonal information:

• The Event Schedule is available HERE
• The Qualification Period is September 1, 2019 to March 27, 2022
• 1 qualifying time allows entry into the competition.
• Number of Entries: A maximum of 8 events with maximum of 2 events per day no matter the number of qualifying times.
• Swimmer Age as of April 7, 2022

Amendment for qualifying for the Spring Forward Invitational Weekend

Due to the cancellation of Festivals and Ontario Youth-Juniors Championships in February and March and the shift to a provincial event beginning April 7 with Festival/OYJ qualifying times, Swim Ontario will permit, for this event only, swimmers that "age-up" in between these cancelled events and April 7 to participate in the Spring Forward Invitational Weekend.  This exemption applies to

• Swimmers aged 13&U (age as of February 19) that qualified for Festivals in February (before Feb. 19) with DOB between February 20 and April 7 and do NOT have any qualifying time in the age up category.
• Swimmers aged 14&O (age as of March 3) that qualified for OYJ in March (before March 3) with DOB between March 4 and April 7and do NOT have a qualifying time in the age up category.

These exempted swimmers will need to be declared by the Club when entries are submitted by emailing meetentries@swimontario.com with proof of qualification event/ time and their DOB.  Only times available on the Swimming Canada RTR will be accepted.  Swimmers must be entered in their respective age-group (as as of April 7) for the Spring Forward Invtational Weekend.

The deadline to provide the participation agreement is Friday, February 11, 2022.  Either the Club President or Head Coach must complete Club Participation Agreement Form.

February 1, 2022

All clubs are required to complete and submit the Club Participation Agreement Form indicating their agreement to participate or decline their participation in the Spring Forward Invitational Weekend taking place in three locations (Windsor, MPAC & TPASC) on April 7 to 10, 2022.

The assignment to each pool was done as follows:

• Western Region clubs were assigned to the Windsor Pool.
• Eastern and Northern regions clubs were randomly assigned to either MPAC or TPASC Pools.
• Central and Huronia regions clubs were randomly assigned to either Windsor, MPAC or TPASC Pools.
• Club Hosts were assigned to the host pool.

Update on the Qualifying Times and Age Groups for finals
To qualify swimmers must either have a Festival Qualifying time or OYJ Qualifying time

Due to the recent shutdown of facilities and a lack of in-water training opportunities for the majority of swimmers in Ontario, the upcoming 2022 Winter Ontario Swimming Championships, 2022 Winter Festivals, 2022 Winter Ontario Youth Juniors and Ontario Masters Provincials have been cancelled.

Rationale

• Now is not an appropriate time in the re-opening process to focus on Provincial Championship style competitions. Swimmers require several months of appropriate preparation prior to competing at Provincial Championships. These cancellations will allow for an appropriate training block.

In their place, Swim Ontario will be hosting a series of events in March and April that will service approximately 2000 swimmers, focused on paving the way to rebuilding the road to meaningful competition for those impacted by the past two years.

SPRING RACING OPPORTUNITIES

Details regarding each of the following racing opportunities will be outlined to the Ontario swimming community in the coming weeks. 

Please note that all of these racing opportunities are contingent on the status of COVID and the local health units.

TRIALS SELECTION PREP INVITE

Date: March 3-6, 2022
Venue: Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC)
Hosted By: North York Aquatic Club

This racing opportunity is to assist the swimmers who were able to continue their training to prepare for the Swimming Canada selection trials.

• Eligibility: Ontario HP Exempted eligible swimmers & maximum of 50 out of province swimmers with minimum 2 Trials QTs
• Number of Swims: 6
• Format: Prelims and Finals, no relays
• Separate PARA events
• No scoring or awards

MASTER SPRING FORWARD INVITATIONAL

Date: March 26-27, 2022
Venue: Etobicoke Olympium
Hosted by: EOMAC

• Eligibility: Ontario based Masters swimmers registered with Swimming Canada/Swim Ontario
• Limit: 250 swimmers
• Number of Swims: 6
• Format: Time Final, no relays
• No scoring or awards
• Participation swag

SPRING FORWARD INVITATIONAL WEEKEND

Date: April 7-10, 2022
Venue/Host: Windsor (WAC) / TPASC (ESWIM) / MPAC (MAC)

Swim Ontario is very excited to host these three competitions in collaboration with club hosts and facility partners to offer these racing events. These 10-lane pools have been specifically selected in order to provide the same opportunities for finals qualification and similar session timelines across all three competitions. All participating clubs will be designated to a specific venue by Swim Ontario, Tuesday February 1. Once clubs have been assigned to a venue, clubs will need to confirm their attendance. Host clubs will be assigned to the host facility.

• Eligibility: Ontario based swimmers only, with 1 QT
• Qualifying Period: September 1, 2019 - March 28, 2022.
• Qualifying times: 
  • Women - OYJ for 13&over, FEST for 12&under
  • Men - OYJ for 14&over, FEST for 13&under
• De-qualifying times:
  • Senior or Junior Trials QT
  • Swimmers qualified for but not attending Canadian Swimming Trials are eligible to compete. They cannot swim in “de-qualified” events.
• Format - (TBC)
• Prelims and Finals (same format/competition at all three venues)
• Number of swims: 8 with daily maximum of 2.
• Bonus swims: up to maximum allowed for the meet and per day
• No relays
• PARA integrated
• No scoring or awards
• Participation swag

In preparation for the summer Provincial Championship season, Ontario clubs are also encouraged to plan and run competitions within the current Return to Racing Framework We look forward to a full slate of scheduled championships/Swim Ontario properties in the summer of 2022.
