Ontario Highlights
Day 3 got off to a great start for the the members of Team Ontario.
The women’s team continued their strong relay performances with a gold in the 4x100 Medley Relay from the team of Yueyi Hu(MAC), Laila Oravsky(BTSC), Jasmine Nicols(MAC) and Taya Hutchison(WAC.)
The most unique event of the competitions was next. The 3000m Freestyle tested the endurance of three Ontario swimmers. The Markham Aquatic Club trio of Angela Wang, Mateusz Powalowski and Max Vorobiev were up to the challenge with Silver, Gold and Silver respectively. Well done!!
Back to the more traditional distances, the women’s 100 free saw four Ontario trained swimmers finish four, five, sixth, seventh.
Jordi Vilchez(BTSC) took silver in the Men’s 200IM. Ontario Swimming was strongly represented in the 200IM with Brooke Manning(GGST) took the win on the women’s side and Jasmine Nicols(MAC) tied for fourth.
Oravsky and Helen Sava(RAMAC) finished second and fourth respectively with Vilchez finishing fifth in the 400 Free. OSA swimmers Bridget Burton and Victoria Raymond finished one, two in the women’s 200 back and OSA swimmer Brodie Khajuria finished second in the 50 Breast.
The 4 x 50 Free Relay closed out the meet and provided a strong ending to what has been a good weekend for Ontario swimmers. The women’s team of Hu, Oravsky, Nicols and Hutchison finished with the silver medal while the men’s team of Preston McMann(NKB), Ben Winterborn(KBM), Noah Taylor(TSC) and Vilchez finished the meet with e bronze medal.
Swim Ontario would like to congratulate all of the swimmers who represented Ontario so well throughout the weekend. A special thank you to the coaching staff of Endi Babi(BTSC) and Ken Anderson(KBM) and the home coaches and clubs for their commitment to this racing opportunity.
Team Ontario continued its strong run of performances at the 2022 Quebec Cup beginning with a gold medal from Laila Oravsky(BTSC) and a Bronze from Max Vorobiev(MAC) in the 800 Free.
The 100 Back was great event for Ontario trained swimmers. Delia Lloyd(ESWIM) won the gold and Ben Winterborn(KBM) the bronze in the event. The women’s 100 back also saw medals from Brigette Burton(IS) and Victoria Raymond(ESWIM)who train at the Ontario Swimming Academy. Raymond also took home the silver in the Women’s 50 Fly .
The evening finished off with Oravsky winning the gold in the Women’s 200 Butterfly against a strong field that included Markham swimmers Jasmine Nicols(4th), Angela Wang(5th) and Thunder Bay’s Kaitlyn Luu(8th.)
The competition concludes tomorrow with another full day for the team. Let’s finish strong!
The swimmers representing Swim Ontario and Ontario swimming at the 2022 Quebec Cup got off to a fast start on Day 1 of competition.
Mateusz Powalowski and Max Vorobiev of the Markham Aquatic Club started the medal run with two quality swims to win the silver and bronze medals in the Mens 1500 free.
Up next was Laila Oravsky(BTSC) with a bronze in the Women’s 200 Free. Helen Sava(RAMAC) and Jordi Vilchez(BTSC) capped the individual medals, each topping the podium in the 400 IM.
Finally, the Women’s 4x100 Free Relay team of Delia Lloyd(ESWIM), Oravky, Lila Bleakney(GGST) and Taya Hutchison(WAC) raced to the silver medal in a very competitive race.
