2024 Ken Demchuk International Invitational

THIS PROGRAM OPPORTUNITY IS MADE POSSIBLE BY SWIM ONTARIO THROUGH THE OHPSI PROGRAM FUNDED BY THE MINISTRY SPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO AND FUNDING PROVIDED THROUGH THE QUEST FOR GOLD PROGRAM.

RATIONALE: To provide a para swimming tour team opportunity as part of the Swim Ontario International Podium Development project.

TOUR DATES:

• November 27 to December 1, 2024
• Pre-competition training: November 28, 2024
• Competition: November 29 - December 1, 2024

LOCATION

• Competition/Training Venue: Markham Pan Am Centre, 16 Main St., Unionville ON, L3R 2E4
• Accommodation Venue: Toronto Marriott Markham, 170 Enterprise Blvd., Markham, ON, L6G 0E6

COST: Approximately $750

Includes travel within the tour, accommodation, food, coaching costs and meet entry fees.
Home clubs will be invoiced for the cost of the tour team after the tour.

Athletes that live more than 100km from the competition venue will have their travel supported through the submission of an expense form and supporting receipts. Eligible expenses include but are not limited to mileage at $0.55 per km, train or air fare.

SWIMMER ELIGIBILITY

• Must be fully registered with Swimming Canada/Swim Ontario.
• Must be eligible for selection to represent Canada at an international competition.
• Must have a Level 2 classification or higher.
• Must have achieved at least 1 minimum qualifying standard for the Ken Demchuk International Invitational.
  *** Athletes who represented or been selected to represent Canada at the 2023 World Championships OR the 2023 Para Pan Am Games OR the 2024 Paralympic Games are NOT eligible for selection.***

PERFORMANCE WINDOWS: January 1, 2024 - August 31, 2024

PERFORMANCE ELIGIBILITY:

Only LCM performances in Paralympic Events during the stated performance window are eligible for consideration.

• Performances must appear in the Swimming Canada RTR or on swimrankings.net in order to be eligible.
• Performances not appearing on the RTR or outside of the performance window will not be considered.

SELECTION PROCESS:

• Athletes will be ranked based on their single highest point scoring event.
• All Paralympic Event performances from the stated performance window that meet a standard for the Ken Demchuck International Invitational will be scored using the Canadian Para Swimming Points Calculator.
• Seven (7) female swimmers and seven (7) male swimmers will be selected to the tour team.
• Two (2) female and two (2) male swimmers will be identified as alternates in the order of point score.
• Swim Ontario reserves the right to not select a full complement of swimmers.

EVENT SELECTION:

• Coaches will be asked to provide event selection for their athlete(s) to Darda Sales by Friday October 18, 2024.
• Coaches are reminded that the sessions at this competition are fairly short (under 2 hours) so coaches should select events accordingly.
• To expose athletes to relay racing, when possible, athletes will be placed on a relay team (either a Swim Ontario tour team or inter-club relay).

AMENDMENTS AND UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES:

• In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances Swim Ontario Technical Staff, under the direction of the CEO, has the full discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit, taking into account factors and circumstances that it deems relevant.

CHANGES TO DOCUMENTS:

• The Swim Ontario technical staff reserves the right to make changes to this document at its discretion. Any changes to this document shall be communicated directly to all eligible participants through their Coach of Record and published on the Swim Ontario website.
