THIS PROGRAM OPPORTUNITY IS MADE POSSIBLE BY SWIM ONTARIO, THE ONTARIO GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF SPORT WITH FUNDING PROVIDED BY SWIMMING CANADA, OHPSI AND THE QUEST FOR GOLD PROGRAM.


RATIONALE: To provide collaborative training opportunities for swimmers focused on distance based freestyle events as part of the Swim Ontario Domestic Podium Development project.

COST $300.00/CAMP

SWIMMER ELIGIBILITY

  • Swimmers Y.O.B 2008 or Younger
  • Must be fully registered with Swimming Canada/Swim Ontario
  • Must be eligible to compete for Canada internationally
  • Swimmers must participate in all “In-Person” training opportunity
  • Swimmers selected to the 2024 Olympic Games are not eligible for this initiative

IN-PERSON TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

  • Stage 1: Top twelve (12) swimmers (6 per gender) based on the defined selection criteria
  • Stage 2: Up to Eighteen (18) swimmers (9 per gender) including those who attended the Stage 1 camp plus those swimmers who attended the 2024 Pan Provincial Open Water/Distance Competition and Camp in Barbados.
  • Swim Ontario reserves the right not to select a full complement of swimmers at any stage.

PERFORMANCE WINDOWS

  • January 1-August 31, 2024(LCM Events Only)

PERFORMANCE ELIGIBILITY:

  • Only LCM performances in defined events during the stated performance window are eligible
  • Performances must appear in the Swimming Canada RTR or on swimrankings.net in order to be eligible.
  • Performances not appearing on the RTR or outside of the performance window will not be considered.

SELECTION PRIORITIES:

  1. Priority 1: Top 2 performances in the 1500m freestyle in the designated age category per gender appearing on the Swimming Canada event rankings.
  2. Priority 2: Top 2 performances in the 800m freestyle in the designated age category per gender appearing on the Swimming Canada event rankings not selected in Priority 1
  3. Priority 3: Top 2 performances in the 400m freestyle in the designated age category per gender appearing on the Swimming Canada event rankings not selected in Priority 1 or 2.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Stage 1:

  1. Priority 1: The top six(6) females and top six(6) males based on the defined selection priorities will be eligible for the selection
  2. Priority 2: Swimmers selected to the 2024 Pan Provincial Open Water/Distance Competition and Camp in Barbados are not eligible for selection to Stage 1.
  3. Swim Ontario reserves the right not to select a full complement of swimmers.

Stage 2:

  1. The twelve(12) swimmers who attended the Stage 1 camp.
  2. Priority 2: Up to six(6) swimmers who attended the 2024 Pan Provincial Open Water/Distance Competition and Camp in Barbados
  3. Additional swimmers may be added to the Stage 2 initiative at the discretion of the Swim Ontario technical staff in alignment with the defined selection priorities.
  4. Swim Ontario reserves the right not to select a full complement of swimmers.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION:

  • Accommodation for the all attending swimmers and coaches will be coordinated by the Swim Ontario Provincial Teams Coordinator
  • Swimmers and Coaches are responsible for their travel to and from the camp.

AMENDMENTS AND UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES:

  • In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances Swim Ontario Technical Staff, under the direction of the CEO, has the full discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit, taking into account factors and circumstances that it deems relevant.

CHANGES TO DOCUMENTS:

  • The Swim Ontario technical staff reserves the right to make changes to this document at its discretion.
  • Any changes to this document shall be communicated directly to all eligible participants through their Coach of Record and published on the Swim Ontario website.
