THIS PROGRAM OPPORTUNITY IS MADE POSSIBLE BY SWIM ONTARIO, THE ONTARIO GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF SPORT WITH FUNDING PROVIDED BY SWIMMING CANADA, OHPSI AND THE QUEST FOR GOLD PROGRAM.


RATIONALE: To provide collaborative training opportunities for swimmers focused on distance based freestyle events as part of the Swim Ontario Domestic Podium Development project.

SWIMMER ELIGIBILITY

  • Swimmers Y.O.B 2008 or Younger
  • Must be fully registered with Swimming Canada/Swim Ontario
  • Must be eligible to compete for Canada internationally
  • Swimmers must participate in all “In-Person” training opportunity
  • Swimmers selected to the 2024 Olympic Games are not eligible for this initiative

INVITEES

  • INVITED SWIMMERS MUST MEET THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OUTLINED IN THE DOCUMENT TO ATTEND THE CAMP
  • Priority 1: Swimmers who attended STAGE 1 in November 2024.
  • Priority 2: Swimmers who attended the 2024 Pan Provincial Tour in Barbados in November 2024
  • Priority 3: Swimmers who attend the 2024 Swimming Canada Distance Camp in Mallorca in October 2024.
  • Additional swimmers may be added to the Stage 2 initiative at the discretion of the Swim Ontario technical staff in alignment with the defined selection priorities
  • Swim Ontario reserves the right not to select a full complement of swimmers.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION

  • Accommodation for the all attending swimmers and coaches will be coordinated by the Swim Ontario Provincial Teams Coordinator
  • Swimmers and Coaches are responsible for their travel to and from the camp.
  • This performance initiative requires athletes to share rooms with other athletes and the athletes are housed separate from parents and guardians.
  • Being able to share a room with another swimmer and away from their parents is a mandatory requirement for selected athletes.

EXPECTED CONDUCT

  • Nominated swimmers and their parents/guardians are expected to comply with the Swim Ontario Code of Conduct, behavioural standards set by the Canada Games Coaching Staff and any Code of Conduct in place at the Canada Games. Failure to comply with these standards of behaviour could result in an athlete’s removal from the Canada Games Team and further discipline in accordance with Swim Ontario policies and procedures.

AMENDMENTS AND UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES

  • In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances, as determined by the Swim Ontario Nomination Committee, the committee shall have the full discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit, considering factors and circumstances that it deems relevant.

CHANGE TO THE DOCUMENT

  • The Swim Ontario Nomination Committee reserves the right to make changes to this document at its discretion.
  • Any changes to this document shall be communicated directly to all potential Canada Games Team Ontario members and published on the Swim Ontario website forthwith.
