2025 Canada Games Major Technical Officials Application

We are pleased to accept nominations for Major Technical Officials (MTOs) for the 2025 Canada Summer Games swimming and open water events, occurring August 9-14 and August 15 (16) respectively in St. John's Newfoundland & Labrador.

Swimming Canada is responsible for appointing Major Technical Officials for the 2025 Canada Games.  Selections will be made by Swimming Canada and then confirmed by Canada Games Council by the end of February 2025.  The Canada Games Council will approve all Major Technical Officials and fund their travel and accommodations. For further information on the Canada Games Council Games Policy and Procedures, please refer to the Major Technical Official’s Recognition Policy and Major Technical Officials Travel and Reimbursement Policy.

The Canada Games swimming information is available on the Canada Games website. Please refer to https://www.canadagames.ca/future-games/st-johns-2025 for the most up to date version of the technical package and schedule.

Officials should be fully certified at level 3 or higher who have shown commitment & ability in supporting championship competitions at the provincial and national level, in addition to those experienced level 5s who may deserve recognition for years of service. The selection committee will be looking for at least 1 level 3/4 from each province/territory to attend the Games.

All officials who meet the criteria and are interested in volunteering at the Canada Games as a Major Technical Official are encouraged to apply.  

Please complete the application form found HERE.  The Swim Ontario Officials Committee will review all applications and send to Swimming Canada the names for consideration.  Each province will nominate 6 officials of which 2 or 3 will be selected by Swimming Canada for participation at the Games.  Please ensure you are fully registered for the season.  Contact your COA.

The application deadline is December 31, 2024 at 4 PM.  No late applications will be considered.

This application form is for Swim Ontario officials.

Considerations & notes:

• Travel & expenses are covered by the Canada Games for attending MTOs.
• Selected officials will need to be available for the full swimming competition. (Aug 8 to 15 including travel days)
  • August 8 - Travel Day
  • August 9 - Workshops for MTOs
  • August 10-14 - Pool Competition
  • August 15 - Travel Day for non OW MTOs
• Officials should indicate if they are interested, experienced and available for open water officiating. A subset of the attending MTOs will be selected to stay an additional 2 days (Aug 16 & 17) to staff the open water events at this Games.
  • August 15 - OW (weather permitting)
  • August 16 - OW (possible rain day)
  • August 17 - Travel Day for OW MTOs
• Please indicate experience with paralympic officiating. It is strongly desired that nominated officials have at a minimum taken the national domestic para training.
