Updates to the Certification Pathway
With the changes in the Rule Book with respect to the Chief Recorder (formely known as CFJ) position, an update to the Certification Pathway has been published by Swimming Canada. The revised certification pathway can be found HERE
A separate bulletin addresses the impacts of clinics, deck sign-offs and certification in each position. CLick HERE for details.
● An official, working under the guidance of a Level IV or V official, may begin to mentor in the Referee role upon completion of the Referee clinic and who has completed the meet manager and CJE/CFJ or CJE/Chief Recorder clinics but has not yet been certified in these positions.
● Certification as Level III Official does require certification in either the Meet Manager or CJE and Chief Recorder positions.
● An official may act in the position of Referee upon completion of the Referee clinic and who has completed the meet manager and CJE and Chief recorder clinics but has not yet been certified in one of these positions.
● Certification as Level IV Senior Official does require certification in all positions.
More details can be found under Level III Certification
For Level III certification the Para Swimming E-module is available on the LMS. The teaching of the Level 1 clinic for Level III certification is not mandatory.
In 2022, the Referee Evaluation Sub-Committee was formed to help with the Level IV and V certification evaluations.
● A candidate should contact the Referee Evaluation Sub-Committee at refevals@swimontario.com and their ROR to indicate their intent of requesting an evaluation as they approach the completion of their requirements.
● Once an official has all the requirements listed in the Certification Process for a Level IV or V they may request a formal evaluation. A request for evaluation with supporting documents requires a minimum of 6 weeks to review, approve the request and organize the evaluation.
