Please read the changes to the Chief Finish Judge / Chief Recorder / Recorder clinics and positions. They are important with respect to the naming of officials positions on grids and on-deck evaluations (sign-offs) for the Chief Recorder and Chief Judge Electronics positions.
The latest October 30, 2024 Swimming Canada rule book is posted HERE
All changes to the Rule Book are outlined at link HERE
C1.2.1 For each session there should be a minimum of the following certified officials:
2.11 Chief Recorder (other than for Olympic Games and World Championships)
2.11.1 The Chief Recorder is responsible for checking results from computer printouts or from results of times and placing in each event received from the Referee. The Chief Recorder shall witness the Referee's signing the results.
C2.18 Chief Judge Electronics
C2.18.1 Shall oversee the operation of any Swimming Canada approved Automatic Officiating Equipment.
How do the rule changes above affect the certification pathway, clinics, officials grid and on-deck evaluations?
The name changes and splitting the positions has resulted in a revised certification pathway as of November 2024. It can be found HERE
C. Complete one other Level II clinic listed below and obtain two successful deck evaluations:
**To be certified in the role of Chief Recorder and Chief Judge Electronics (CJE), an official must complete both the Chief Recorder clinic and the CJE clinic. Additionally, the official must obtain two deck evaluations: one in the role of Chief Recorder and one in either role. If the CFJ/CJE clinic was taken prior to October 24, 2024, two deck evaluations are required, one of which can be CFJ prior to September 1, 2024, or Chief Recorder position as of September 1, 2024.
B. Complete the Recorder clinic;
Note: Completing the requirements for Level III (A, B, C, D) may happen simultaneously or in any order. The Recorder clinic may be completed at any time, once an official is working on their Level II, in combination with the Meet Manager, Chief Recorder or CJE clinics as deemed appropriate. It is recommended the Recorder clinic be taken prior to or in conjunction with the Meet Manager clinic. There are no deck evaluations required for the Recorder position.
Note: There is no stand alone Recorder Clinic. The material is covered in the Chief Recorder clinic. Once this clinic is done, the official has satisfied Level III B requirement. Anyone that has completed the Recorder/Scorer or Chief Recorder/Recorder clinics has satisfied Level III B requirement.
Starting now if you haven’t already adopted these
There should never be a Chief Recorder and CJE in place at the same time.
