Navigating Scenarios at Competitions

As the 1st swimmer approaches the wall, the 2nd swimmer lifts his right foot from behind the wedge and puts both feet on the wedge, with no contact of the flat platform (tips of both toes 1 inch up the wedge), and launches himself from this position (full body weight solely on the wedge).

Meet package did not specify a specific age group for use of back stoke ledges.

During a relay, the 4 swimmers swim out of order. However, the officials fail to check the swimmers’ names and a DQ is not reported. The swimmer who swam leg 1 swam a personal best, however that time is not recorded against the swimmer but to another teammate.

Scenario - Swimmer is swimming a 50m race. At the 25m turn, the swimmer touches the wall then climbs out of pool, jumps back in and complete the remaining 25m.

Scenario - At the finish of a butterfly race, the IT observed that at the last stroke into the wall, the swimmer had started an arm pull backwards. The swimmer was close to the wall and their head made a contact with the touchpad stopping the clock. The swimmer's arms then recovered underwater and the swimmer touched the wall with a two-hand touch.

First regional meet of the season, 5 lane pool, new swimmers at their first meet. Coach requests that some of the swimmers be allowed to start from the pool deck or from in the water instead of from the blocks.

Scenario: During warm up for a long course meet, lanes 1 and 2 have been opened for dive starts. Many swimmers sprinting only to the 15m (or even short of that), stopping and then crossing lanes 2 and 1 to exit the pool from the side. Scenario: An official split at 100m of a 200 back is requested. At 100m, the swimmer finishes on their back, and the official split is taken. The swimmer then leaves the wall on their breast and completes the 200m. The swim is disqualified for not leaving the wall on their back.

With the implementation of the new Certification Pathway, there is an increased importance of the Stroke Judge (SJ). How should COCs and Evaluators support their officials to meet the SJ requirements?

In some areas of the province, the Inspector of Turns and Judges of Stroke are given DQ slips with their heat sheet/clipboard. I worked a meet yesterday and was told it was not permitted.
