Backstroke Ledge Use - Age limit

Meet package did not specify a specific age group for use of back stoke ledges.

Scenario

Meet package did not specify a specific age group for use of back stoke ledges.

Question

Should ledges be available or needed for 12 and under swimmers?

Solution/recommendation

It is important to make sure that consistency of use is maintained throughout all sessions within the swim meet to provide a fair opportunity to all swimmers. As backstroke ledges become more common, we need to remove the “fear/angst” of using ledges. We also need to recognize that in some regions, not all teams have access to blocks due to facility dive restrictions. Backstroke ledges are not available to all during training sessions.

Every club needs to make their own decision regarding their capacity to provide backstroke ledges. This decision needs to be clearly stated in the meet package.
