Coordinate officials development through clinics & competitions
This role can be combined with the Club Official Administrator (COA) Role
The Club Official Administrator (COA) and the Club Official Chair (COC) will need to aquire access to the Swimming Canada Registration (RTR) system for registering and maintaining profiles for club officials. The Club President and the COA/COC must complete and sign the Additional User Access Declaration Form and email the completed form to Nicole. Swim Ontario will setup a COA account on the system. Clubs may have multiple COA accounts for various roles within the club organization. The functions of the COA account are the same for all the different roles.
Swim Ontario recommends Clubs and Club Officials Chair (COC) plan clinics in order to train their officials for upcoming swim meets. Officials Clinics remain an integral part of the training and evaluation process for all Level 1 and Level 2 Officials. This facilitation of training includes instruction, discussion, Q&A (questions & answers) that is provided in a group setting or virtually. The course instructor should review and know the material before presenting the material, with a view to having questions and answers discussed with the mentor present, including previous experiences and handling of situations to be provided in a dialogue.
We encourage COCs to share information and pool resources to help develop officials by co-hosting clinics. Everyone benefits from collaborations as more officials get educated and involved in officiating in Ontario.
COCs may obtain Power Point presentations, video files for strokes and answer keys to quizzes by emailing Officials for the link to the Google folder.
Club Official Chairs (COCs) that have a COA Account on the RTR must add upcoming club or regional Clinics (in person or virtual) on the Swimming Canada Education site (LMS Site). All details in the LMS Administrative Guide for COC/COA.
All clinics must first be approved on the LMS. Once the clinic is completed, the attendance and details are sent to the RTR. This constitute the registration of the clinic with Swim Ontario. All details in the LMS Administrative Guide for COC/COA.
One of the key elements to a successful competition is having all the required volunteers and officials in place for the competition. The COC will work with the Competition Coordinator and the Meet Manager to determine a recruitment strategy for the required officials.
The COC with the Competition Coordinator will build and maintain an Officials Grid and arrange for mentoring and on-deck evaluations for each session of the competition.
The Club Official Chair and Administrator will work together to monitor officials development within the club with the support of Level 4/5 officials within their club or region and their Regional Officials Representative (ROR). The Swimming Canada Certification Pathway and the details can be found at Officials/Certification.
Merchandise and recognition material (certification pins, namebadges, rule books, polos, etc) is available to order through theOnline Merchandise Order Form. The club is responsible for ordering and distributing Level 1 and 2 certification pins.
All clinics must be managed through the Learning Management System.
