Ontario Officials Updates: July 2026

Several updates to support officials for the 2026-2027 competition season

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 season, this bulletin highlights several important updates related to sanctioning procedures, Competition Coordinator requirements, educational opportunities, REMS, and administration. These updates are intended to assist clubs and officials with planning for the upcoming season. Additional guidance, resources, and reminders will be shared through future bulletins as new information becomes available and preparations continue.

Sanctions & Procedure Updates

The Competition Sanction Obligation procedure has been restructured for an easier flow of information. Updates include:

  • Updates on processes based on REMS functions.
  • In-House Competition: New definition provided.
  • Section 6: New Deck Capacity and Session Management section.
  • Section 7: New Sanction Duration & Post-Meet Fee Application section.
  • Updates on Competition Coordinator requirements.
  • Additional updates may be required based on the upcoming Swimming Canada rules book for fall.

Detailed requirements can be found here: Sanctioning Requirements

REMS Shutdown: Meet Listing & Sanction Applications

REMS will be unavailable to Club Administrators, including Meet Managers and Club Officials Administrators, from August 24 to August 31.

  • Meet Listings: Clubs may list competitions in REMS now. Note: Sanctioned competitions (including In-House) are not permitted during the Blackout Period (Sept 1 – Oct 12).
  • Sanction Applications: Applications begin September 1, provided the 2026–2027 Club Affiliation is complete.
  • Club In-House Activities: Clubs conducting in-house activities (e.g., mock meets) with fully registered officials on deck, where times will not be recognized, must obtain prior approval by submitting the online application form, preferably at least two weeks before the activity.

Competition Coordinator (CC) Requirements

Beginning this upcoming season, completion of the Swim Ontario Competition Coordinator (CC) Clinic is required to be named as a CC in a meet package and acting in this role at competitions. See details HERE.

  • Transition Period: For Oct/Nov 2026 competitions, sanctioning may proceed if at least one named CC is registered for a Sept/Oct clinic.
    • For meets requiring two CCs, at least one must have completed the clinic prior to the competition.
    • Post-November 30, 2026: All named CCs must have completed the clinic prior to the meet.
  • A REMS Credential will be added to all those that complete the CC Clinic.

Educational Series

Swim Ontario invites officials from across the province to participate in our 2026 Officials Education Series, featuring two virtual learning sessions in September and the Swim Ontario Officials Seminar on Sunday, October 4, at the Blue Mountain Conference Centre. Additional Information and sign-up can be found here: Educational Series Info

Additional dates for a CC clinic will be advertised when solidified. Plans are to run an additional October clinic and monthly virtual clinic throughout the season.

Administration & Invoices

REMS Credentials

When entering credentials in REMS for officials, COAs must use the status "Active". This is the only status recognized as valid for credentials.

Missing Historical Clinics

To add missing historical clinics (from RTR or before), please email nicole@swimontario.com. Please verify the LMS for recent clinics before emailing.

Watch for updates to this bulletin for latest FAQs about the LMS.

Officials Registration Invoices

The last quarterly invoices for the 2025–2026 season will be issued on July 31, with payment due by August 15. Unpaid balances after this date will prevent access to the REMS this fall.

Outstanding Post Meet Fees

All post-meet fees must be paid prior to fall affiliation and obtaining REMS access.
